Supporting School Development Priorities
At This Life Cambodia we work directly with School Support Committees (similar to a PTA) in each community to build their knowledge and capacity for developing and improving their schools. We believe that local communities are the experts when it comes to setting and implementing their own development priorities.
Mr. Ke Bunthorn is 70 years old and an active member of the School Support Committee (SSC) in Kampong Khleang. “Prior to TLC’s involvement this school did not have an active SSC but I always helped the school by fundraising in the community. But it was so hard to find the way for solutions. After TLC started working with us, they helped to form the SSC and provide training on roles and responsibilities, school development planning, monitoring & evaluation, fundraising, proposal writing, communications and team building. Now I’m very happy to see the SSC members joined hand in hand to help the school together.”
In the past five months we have worked with several new schools in our program to create development plans. The new school year will start in November and now that plans are complete we will be meeting with the School Support Committees on the priorities they have set. Money recently raised through our campaign on Global Giving will go towards funding projects at the following schools:
Rumdaul: Construction of sports facilities for football and volleyball
Kandal: Planting a school garden
Rohal: 30 Bicycles for students who live far from school
O Takok: 30 Bicycles for students who live far from school

Khum Ream: Construction of sports facilities for football and volleyball
Teuk Lech: Library development. Construction of book shelves and purchase of 150 books
