Private Tutoring Research Report Launch Event
Thank you to everyone who attended TLC’s Private Tutoring Research Report launch event held on Friday the 11th of January. This report was created by the Community Research and Consultancy Program (CRCP) team, with research that was conducted over one year. A number of stakeholders attended this event, including; Representatives from the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sport; Representatives from the Siem Reap and Angkor Thom District Offices of Education, Youth and Sport; School Principals, School Teachers, School Support Committee members, Officers from various NGOs, and TLC staff members.
During the event, each TLC Program Co-ordinator presented information about their separate programs to give an overall understanding of our organisation to the guests. Following this, Pisseth (CRCP Program Co-ordinator) explained the importance of the Private Tutoring Research Report. Question and Answer time was then given and many participants were interested to find out more about TLC’s various programs.
Due to the sensitive nature of the topic much attention has been given to this study from the public. Private tutoring is an issue in Cambodia because the school curriculum is used to teach private tutoring classes. Therefore, if children are unable to attend private tutoring classes, they are unable to keep up with the school curriculum. This has caused inequity within the education system in Cambodia and is an important issue which needs to be addressed.
We are very happy to say that the launch event was a big success. The publishing of this report is an excellent step forward for TLC and the CRCP team. We are hopeful that the report can be widely distributed and that it will help to make a positive change in relation to equality in education in Cambodia.
