Additional vocational training skills classes added
Our program, This Life Beyond Bars, is underpinned by a belief in second chances, especially for young people born into unfortunate circumstances. Vulnerable children and young people who go through the criminal justice system in Cambodia are often stigmatised, barred from meaningfully participating in society. The result is a 60% re-offending rate within just 6 months, the costs of which are borne by whole communities.
This Life Beyond Bars, includes vocational training, personal development support, drug and alcohol counselling, help with maintaining family ties, access to legal advice and advocacy, and post-release support. The result? A near 1% re-offending rate and children and young people returning to their communities with the skills and expertise needed to make a positive impact.
This Life is pleased to announce that we have expanded the program. We have introduced air-conditioning and light installations vocational training classes for young inmates in Banteay Meanchey prison. These classes are the result of our collaboration with the Polytechnic Institute of Banteay Meanchey Province and Banteay Meanchey Prison.
We thank them for joining us in our commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children and young people in contact with the law.
